Univ. of St. La Salle overwhelms FEU in Shakey’s V-League

MANILA, Philippines—University of St. La Salle breezed past a listless Far Eastern University, 25-11, 25-22, 25-15, in the quarterfinals of the 9th Shakey’s V-League first conference Thursday at the Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Stingers took the fight out of the Lady Tamaraws in the third set, pulling away for good to grab their second victory and improve their chances for the semifinals.

Beauty Denila spearheaded a fiery team effort with 14 points, while Royce Quijano added 12 points as all but one Lady Stinger finished in double digits.

The Lady Tamaraws, on the other hand, were poised to tie match with a better second set, bouncing back from an embarrassing opener.

But FEU, lacking enough fire power, squandered an 18-14 edge and was stifled by St. La Salle with an 11-4 run and failed to recover in the ensuing set.

Rosemarie Vargas was the lone scorer in double digits for her squad with 10 points.
