MANILA, Philippines—Ateneo maintained its spotless record through the quarterfinals after outmaneuvering San Sebastian, 25-11, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19, Thursday in the 9th Shakey’s V-League first conference at the Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Eagles hiked their record to 6-0 with the convincing victory, virtually nailing a spot in the semifinals for being on top of the standings.
Save for the second set let-up, it was all-Ateneo all match long as it dominated San Sebastian behind guest player Phee Nok Kesinee and locals Dzi Gervacio and Alyssa Valdez.
Kesinee powered her way through with 21 points on 16 kills, three blocks and two aces while Gervacio and Valdez combined for 32 markers.
It was combined effort for the Lady Eagles with almost everyone pitching on the scoring end, but it was Kesinee who sealed the victory with three of the last five points.
Veteran Thai guest player Jeng Bualee, as usual, singlehandedly carried the cudgels for the Lady Stags, nailing a game-high 30 points.
But Bualee, whose crosscourt kill and service ace helped nab the second set, drew little support from her teammates as San Sebastian absorbed its second defeat.
