MANILA, Philippines—The Philippines Under-23 squad suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss to host Singapore in the 2022 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers Thursday at Jalan Basar Stadium.

The Philippines is now eliminated from contention with 0-0-2 win-loss-draw card in Group H after also losing its match to South Korea, 3-0, on Monday.

It was a lackluster display for the U23 Azkals who had several chances on goal but botched their opportunities.

This subpar performance allowed Glen Kweh to find the back off the net off of Danish Azman’s pass in the 52nd minute.

The Philippines earned a penalty in the 22nd minute when Jordan Emaviwe pulled down Kieran Hayes but Azkals captain Oliver Bias hit the crossbar on his attempt.

Ivan Ouano had two more chances in the second half but he missed the mark in both chances.

The U23 Azkals can end their campaign on a positive note as they match up against Timor Leste on Sunday.

South Korea lead Group H with six points (2-0-0) with Singapore at second place with four points (1-1-0).

Timor Leste, meanwhile, has one point to its name (0-1-1).
