To show the world that it’s back on its feet, Dumaguete City will be the main host of the 2012 POC-PSC National Games from May 25 to June 3.
Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria announced yesterday the city’s readiness to stage 24 of the 38 sporting events in the home of Filipino Olympic archers Joan Chan-Tabanag, Jennifer Chan and Mark Javier.
“I admit that after two calamities that happened just two months apart, we had second thoughts of hosting,” said Sagarbarria. “But nevertheless, this is the only way we can show the world, the country and the city of Dumaguete that we are back on our feet.”
The capital city of Negros Oriental bore the brunt of Typhoon Sendong and an intensity 6.9 earthquake early this year. But the mayor said preparations were not hampered and their morale as host remained high.
Laguna will host canoe/kayak and dragonboat at Caliraya Lake and rugby and taekwondo in Sta. Cruz. Other sports will be played in Metro Manila.
