MANILA, Philippines — Carl Jammes Martin, a boxing prospect from Ifugao, hopes to become a world champion someday just as every other fighter in the sport.

Martin is certainly in the right direction toward achieving his goal as he is set to contend for the Philippine super bantamweight title on December 4 at Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque.

“Ever since I started fighting in Manila, I saw how good the boxers here are that’s why it’s also been my dream to become a Philippine champion,” Martin said in Filipino.

Standing in Martin’s way is Mark Anthony Geraldo, who will defend his title for the third time.

The 22-year-old Martin is undefeated at 17-0 with 15 knockouts but he knows the more experienced Geraldo (38-9-3, 19KOs) is nothing like any other opponent he has faced in the past.

“My previous opponents are far from Geraldo’s level. Apart from winning the Philippine title, I really want this fight because the defending champion is really known for his experience,” added Martin.

Geraldo has fought several big names including former champions Nordine Oubaali and McJoe Arroyo and reigning IBF super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas, whom he beat via majority decision in 2012.

Martin is currently a promotional free agent and he is aware that an impressive showing against Geraldo would also help him land a deal with a top boxing agency.

“We’re looking at our offers so that we won’t have any regrets when we choose where we sign up,” said Martin, who is being eyed by the likes of Richard Schaefer’s Probellum and MP Promotions among others.
