Phoenix’s Sean Anthony out 4-6 weeks after bone spur surgery

MANILA, Philippines — Phoenix forward Sean Anthony is expected to miss at least four weeks after undergoing surgery to remove bone spurs from his ankle.
Anthony went under the knife on Tuesday, four days after being acquired by the Fuel Masters from the NorthPort Batang Pier in a trade involving veteran bruiser Vic Manuel.
“He will be out 4-6 weeks,” Phoenix head coach Topex Robinson told INQUIRER.net in a text message Wednesday.
The 35-year-old Anthony bared he was only made aware of the bone spurs in his ankle until after the conference.
“Successful surgery yesterday to remove the bone spurs from the back of my ankle,” Anthony posted on Instagram Wednesday.
“They were digging into my tendons and causing lots of pain and inflammation. They were also causing stress fractures in my ankle that I played through and didn’t know about until I got an MRI after the conference.”
Despite the injury, Anthony still managed to put up decent numbers in his last conference for the Batang Pier, averaging 10.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals in eight games.
“I’m just glad they are finally out and I can get back to playing pain free basketball and get back to my normal self. #roadtorecovery,” said Anthony, whose versatility, energy, and leadership will be of big help for Phoenix.
It was only two years ago when Anthony, the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year, had his best season in the PBA where he averaged 16.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.4 steals for the Batang Pier.
