MANILA, Philippines—Carlo Biado added another piece of hardware to his growing trophy cabinet after he triumphed in the Abu Dhabi 9-Ball Championship Friday (Manila time) at Power Break Hall in the united Arab Emirates capital.
The reigning US Open Pool champion dominated fellow Filipino Jordan Banares, 13-6, in the final to pocket AED 20,000 (around P272,000) in prize money.
Biado, a former World 9-Ball champion, went undefeated throughout the tournament as he stomped Harry Vergara in the semifinals, 11-8, Roland García in the quarterfinals, 11-5, and Venancio Tanio in the Round of 16, 11-4.
“I’m very happy to win again, especially in an international tournament like this Abu Dhabi Open 9-Ball Championship,” said Biado. “Christmas came early.”
The Filipino cue artist waylaid Mohammed Eiljeffrey of UAE, 9-0, in the preliminaries before having a tight contest with fellow countryman Arnel Bautista, 9-7.
Banares held off Bautista, 11-7, in the semifinals to set up his championship round matchup against Biado.
Though he lost in the finals, Banares still took home AED 10,000 (around P136,000) from the tournament organized by Abu Dhabi-based Filipino Jayson Nuguid
