MANILA, Philippines—Petro Gazz overwhelmed a star-struck Baguio squad to score a 25-10, 25-13, 25-10 victory and put its title bid on a high note Saturday in the PNVF Champions League women’s volleyball championships at Aquamarine Sports Complex in Lipa City.

National team mainstay Ces Molina and Grethcel Soltones led the Angels with 13 and eight points, respectively, holding back no punches against the Lady Highlanders who are seeing action in their first big tournament.

“We are still trying to get used to playing on court again, but we still have to do a lot of things to improve like serve, blocks and receive,” said PetroGazz team captain Chie Saet who had 13 excellent sets.

Soltones said they refused to be complacent despite facing a young, untested team like Baguio. “We made sure we won’t underestimate the young ones because they have skills as well. We also learned from them,” she Soltones.
