MANILA, Philippines—Bright Akhuetie has been included in Nigeria’s national team pool for the Fiba World Cup African qualifiers.
The 15-man selection also includes former NBA players Ike Diogu and Ben Uzoh.
Akhuetie last played for the Fighting Maroons in the UAAP Season 82.
The 6-foot-7 big man was named UAAP MVP in 2018. He led UP to the finals in the same season, ending the school’s 32-year finals drought.
Nigeria, which is in Group A, begins its campaign in the qualifiers on November 26 against Cape Verde.
The D’Tigers finished 10th in a 12-team field at the Tokyo Olympics last August.
