PH weightlifter Fernando Agad shows promise in first international meet

MANILA, Philippines—Filipino Fernando Agad showed a glimpse of his potential in his first major competition.
Agad finished eighth overall in a 17-man field in the men’s -55kg at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championships on Wednesday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The 19-year-old Cebuano native had a total lift of 239kg, 108kg in snatch and 131kg in the clean and jerk.
“He did well despite participating in just his first international tournament,” said his coach Ramon Solis in Bisaya, as per Cebu Daily News.
“He finished second in Group B. His performance is a good sign. He has a bright future ahead of him.”
