MANILA, Philippines—Alaska chalked up its second straight win taking down San Miguel, 99-94, to take a share of the top spot of the 2021 PBA Governors’ Cup Friday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Aces improved to 2-0 joining NLEX at the top of the standings while the Beermen fell to 0-2, the first time since the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup that the team started a conference with back-to-back defeats.

Olu Ashaoulu finished with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists to lead the Aces who had four other players score in double figures.

Robbie Herndon added 11 points and six boards for Alaska while Abu Tratter and Mike Digregoio, and Alec Stockton all had 10 points apiece.

“We’re in a lot better shape going into this conference and guys have been focused, and Olu’s been a big part to this 2-0 start and he gives a lot of energy,” said Alaska head coach Jeffrey Cariaso.

“We know what he can bring to the court but what’s really awesome about him is his off-court leadership. He’s a warrior on the court and a leader off of it.”

June Mar Fajardo led San Miguel with 23 points and 15 rebounds while Brandon Brown had his own double-double of 22 points and 14 boards.
