MANILA, Philippines—The holidays will have to wait for some Filipino pugs.
The Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) said eight Filipinos will compete in the Asian Under-22 Boxing Championships from January 20 to 30 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The tilt will be Ed Picson’s first since being appointed as the federation’s president last month.
“We have already informed all our boxers and coaches that we have a Christmas break from December 18 to January 8. But then the invitation came out so we had to sadly inform them,” said Picson on Tuesday during the PSA Forum.
With an upcoming tournament set, the boxers will continue their training in Baguio, according to Picson.
The 2022 schedule will be hectic for ABAP with the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi and the Women’s World Championships in Turkey both set in May followed by the Asian Games in China in September.
