Jordan Clarkson, Erik Spoeltra call for help for Typhoon Odette victims

MANILA, Philippines—Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra and Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson appealed to basketball fans to extend their help to the survivors of typhoon “Odette”

Spoelstra and Clarkson, who are both of Filipino-American descent, took to social media to ask for aid after “Odette” battered Eastern and Central Visayas earlier this month.

“Our hearts go out to the families affected by typhoon ‘Odette,’” said Spoelstra and Clarkson in a video posted by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.

“I’m reaching out to our fans because we need your help in supporting our Filipino friends, every little bit helps, any amount gifted will aid relief operations across the country.”

Spoelstra, whose mother is Elisa Celino of San Pablo, Laguna,  has won two titles with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013.

Clarkson, meanwhile, is born to a Filipino mother Annette Davis. He represented the country in the 2018 Asian Games.

“Thank you for supporting our efforts to rebuild communities that need it the most.”

Odette, as of Tuesday, has caused 59 confirmed deaths and more than P22 billion in damages according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
