MANILA, Philippines—The Premier Volleyball League is hoping it could open its 2022 season in February, depending if the organization gets the necessary approval from the government.

League president Ricky Palou said the league would need the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Games and Amusements Board to hold their second season.

“We’re hoping to have our next conference by February, but this will really depend on the IATF and GAB approvals,” said Palou.

The PVL had its maiden professional season from July to August 2021 with Chery Tiggo taking the Open Conference title inside a bubble environment in Ilocos Norte.

Last September, PVL announced that it is planning to start the next season in early February.

“If we’re allowed to proceed, it will have to be in a bubble set-up.”

The recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the Philippines, with Saturday tallying 26,458 new infections, forced sports to be once again put on hold.

The PBA, which allowed fans back in mid-December, was forced to postpone its games indefinitely with Metro Manila under Alert Level 3.
