MANILA, Philippines—Dwight Ramos starred in Toyama’s 99-91 win over Akita Saturday in their inter-conference matchup in the 2021-22 Japan B.League season at Toyama City Gymnasium.
Ramos had a stellar night off the bench with 22 points, on an efficient 8-of-11 shooting from the field, and five steals for Toyama, who improved to 10-17 for eighth seed in the Western Conference.
Toyama went firing in the third quarter coming back from a 34-47 deficit at the break to take a a 70-69 lead heading to the fourth.
Ramos then went on a personal 7-2 run to give the Grouses an 84-73 lead with 6:08 left in the game.
Brice Johnson also finished with 22 points to go along 15 rebounds for the Grouses while Julian Mavunga added 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Hasegawa Noboru and Jordan Glynn had 19 points apiece for Akita, which slipped to the sixth spot in the East with a 17-10 card.
The game between Toyama and the Northern Happinets was the only fixture that involved a Filipino import this weekend as San-En, Nagoya, Ibaraki, and Niigata’s matches were postponed due to players testing positive for COVID-19.
