MANILA, Philippines—Alex Eala bounced out of her first tournament this year, losing to tournament top seed Alice Rame, 6-2, 6-4, in the third round of the International Tennis Federation W25 Manacor at Rafa Nadal Academy Tuesday.
France’s Rame, who is eight years older than the Filipino teen, was tied at 2-2 with Eala in the opening set before taking advantage of her opponent’s double fault to take a 3-2 lead.
She then dominated Eala with a comfortable first set victory before having a tighter contest in the second.
Eala, who contracted COVID-19 during the Christmas season, initially had a 3-0 lead in the second before Rame won the next four games, 4-3.
“Not the result I wanted today, but still happy with my performance on the court,” wrote Eala on Facebook.
Eala cruised in her first match in the tournament blasting Slovenia’s Ella Hojnik, 6-1, 6-1, in the first round before gutting out a second round victory over Slovakia’s Mia Chudejova, 7-6 (2), 6-3.
