MANILA, Philippines—Bienve Marañon jumped from one top club to another as he signed with Malaysian Super League powerhouse Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club.

Joining Marañon as the club’s new players is fellow Philippine Azkal Carli de Murga.

The Southern Tigers announced the signing of the Filipino players on social media as they try to extend their championship streak to nine in the Malaysian Super League.

“Welcome to the home of the Southern Tigers!” posted the club.

Johor Darul Ta’zim îs the most successful side in Malaysian history having won eight Super Leagues, two Malaysia Cups, one Malaysia FA Cup, and six Super Cups.

The Southern Tigers also won the 2015 AFC Cup.

“Grateful for this opportunity. New challenge, new goals with the tigers. Can’t wait to play in front of our amazing supporters,” posted Marañon on Twitter.

Marañon was instrumental in United City FC’s success in the Philippines as he led the club to four straight Philippine Football League titles from 2017 to 2020 and the 2019 Copa Paulino Alcantara.

The Spanish-born forward is also the AFC Cup’s top goalscorer with 35 goals.
