MANILA, Philippines—Alpine skier Asa Miller will carry the Philippine flag once again in the opening parade of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics at Beijing National Stadium on Friday.

Miller, the Philippines’ lone athlete in the Winter Games, will compete in the slalom and giant slalom events of the alpine skiing competition.

“I’m extremely excited the first time, it was one of the best moments of my life. And I can’t wait to do it for the second time,” said Miller.

Joining Miller in the opening ceremonies are Philippine Olympic Committee President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, Philippine Ski and Snow Federation chief Billy Sumagui, and Chef de Mission Bones Floro.

Beijing will be the first time that Miller will be representing the Philippines by himself as he had figure skater Michael Martinez to share that responsibility in the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.

“It feels great to be in China again—the Olympic spirit and the culture all over the place, as well as the other athletes—they’re very fun and motivating,” said Miller.

This will be the second time in 14 years that China serves as host for the Olympics after the 2008 Summer Games was staged in the country.

The opening ceremonies will start at 8 pm on Friday as Manila and Beijing are in the same time zone.
