Looking to build on last year’s gains, Filbasket has set its sights on a summertime return and will do so as a professional league.

“We have 12 teams confirmed for the second competition that will run from March to May,” Jai Reyes, the league’s founder and commissioner, said in a statement. “It’s going to be a bigger and better tournament and we can’t wait to tip-off.”

The league, which is currently in the process of gaining a pro status, has pinned March 15 for its opening where a P1 million cash prize awaits the champion.

A single round-robin elimination phase will be used, with the top eight teams advancing to the quarterfinals until two clubs are left to contest the championship in a race-to-three title series for the mouthwatering purse.

AICC Manila won it all during the league’s inaugural tournament back in November in an 11-team tournament conducted within a bio-locked environment in Subic.

Filbasket will be playing in a more relaxed setup this time out, but Reyes assured that safety remains his foremost concern, saying that regular tests and strict health protocols will be put in place.

The games will again be available for online streaming, with Solar Sports coming back on board as broadcast partner.
