Alex Eala bows to French foe, exits W60 Grenoble tilt
MANILA, Philippines—Alex Eala failed to advance to the quarterfinals after losing to France’s Chloe Paquet in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, in the second round of the ITF W60 Grenoble Thursday in France.
The 27-year-old Paquet, the fourth seed in the tournament, is ranked no.124 in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings while Eala, who’s 11 years the junior of her opponent, is no.587 in the world.
Paquet started the deciding set up 3-1 and maintained her control over Eala taking a 5-2 lead after the Filipino got called with a double fault.
Eala managed to trim the deficit to 5-3 and looked to pin Paquet leading 30-0 in the ninth game.
Paquet, however, eventually broke Eala’s serve to get to match point.
“On to the next!’ Eala posted on her official Facebook account after the match.
Meanwhile, the French professional will next face Kathinka von Deichmann of Liechtenstein in the quarterfinals.
