Santiago’s Saitama, Bagunas’ Oita Miyoshi suffer losses in Japan V.League

MANILA, Philippines—Jaja Santiago and Bryan Bagunas suffered losses in their Saturday matches in the 2021-22 Japan V.League season.

Saitama and Santiago dropped a five-setter against Hitachi, 21-25, 29-27, 18-25, 18-25, 27-25, at Saitama Prefectural Budokan.

This was the Ageo Medics’ first game since January 16 after several of their matches got postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Oba Okumu, the daughter of University of the Philippines head coach Godfrey Okumu, led the Rivale with 28 points while Osanai Miwako added 26 points as they improved to 8-13 at the eighth spot.

Lorenne Teixeira led Saitama, which dropped to 10-7, with 29 points while Santiago pitched in 16 points.

Oita Miyoshi and Bagunas, meanwhile, dropped their fourth straight match losing to Toray, 25-23, 25-21, 25-22, at Mishima City Gymnasium.

Emerson Rodriguez led the Weisse Adler with 23 points while Bagunas added 15 points but their efforts weren’t enough as they stayed at the ninth seed with a 5-20 record.

Krisztian Padar led the Arrows with 15 points as they improved to 17-8 at the second spot in the standings.
