V.League: Jaja Santiago, Saitama Ageo Medics eke out win

MANILA, Philippines—Jaja Santiago and Bryan Bagunas had differing fates in their Sunday assignments in the 2021-22 Japan V.League season.

Saitama notched its third win in four games overcoming Denso in five sets, 25-27, 25-19, 25-17, 21-25, 16-14, in the women’s division at Saitama Prefectural Budokan in Ageo City.

The Ageo Medics, with the win, improved to 11-7 for the sixth spot while the Airybees remained in fifth with a 13-7 card.

Lorenne Teixeira finished with 28 points (25 kills, three blocks) to lead the Ageo Medics who improved to 11-7 at the sixth seed while Santiago took care of the defensive aspect finishing with 24 points on 16 kills, seven blocks and an ace.

Nakamoto Minami and Hyodo Yuki led the Airybees with 17 points apiece.

Oita Miyoshi fell to its seventh straight loss bowing to Toray in straight sets, 25-21, 25-21, 25-12, in the men’s division at Mishima City Gymnasium in Sizuoka.

Krisztian Pádár led the Arrows with 16 points (14 kills, one block, one ace) while Tomita Masama had his serve going finishing with 14 points (seven kills, seven aces).

Emerson Rodriguez led the Weisse Adler with 11 points (10 kills, one ace) while Bagunas added nine points, all of which came from kills.

Oita Miyoshi slipped to a 5-21 record at the ninth spot after suffering its seventh straight defeat while Toray is tied with Sakai at the second seed at 18-8.
