MANILA, Philippines—Naturally most boxers live two different lives as they usually portray a couple of personalities whenever they’re out or in of the ring.
Jerwin Ancajas is no different.
The soft-spoken IBF super flyweight champion was respectful, sometimes too much, to challenger Fernando Martinez during their press conference but he warned the former Olympian that there will be hell come fight night.
“Yes [I do have a killer instinct in the ring] maybe I evolve into a monster in the ring,” said Ancajas with an interview with FightHype.com.
Ancajas also had a conversation with Martinez’s mentor Marcos Maidana during the proceedings but told the two-division champion that his student will be in for a long night come Saturday (Sunday Manila time).
“We talked earlier and I told him that everything is just sport but on Saturday it’ll be war,” said Ancajas.
The 30-year-old added that he’s also looking forward to fighting his idol Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez if the Nicaraguan beats Julio Cesar Martinez in their fight on March 5 in California.
“I’ll trust Chocolatito to win the fight, he’s my idol,” said Ancajas. “If I beat Chocolatito then it’s a dream come true. He’s my idol, I always watch his fights, and if I have a chance to fight him then it’ll be my pleasure.”
