Thanya Dela Cruz resets PH record at National Open
MANILA, Philippines—Teenage star Thanya Dela Cruz reset the national record for women’s 50-meter breaststroke at 32.42 seconds on the first day of the 2022 Philippine Swimming Inc. National Open Friday at Teofilo Yldefenso Swimming Complex in Malate.
The 19-year-old from the Ayala Harpoons Swimming Club broke her earlier record of 32.89 seconds she set in the 2021 PSI National Selection Bubble in Capas, Tarlac in October.
Article continues after this advertisementDela Cruz, who’ll attend Ateneo for college, also ruled the women’s 50m freestyle at 23.94 seconds.
Miguel Barreto, who’s also a member of the Harpoons, went 2-of-2 in his events taking the title in the men’s 400m freestyle at 4:13.08 then taking charge of the 200m individual medley at 2:13.97.
Ayala’s Miguel Isip won the 50m backstroke clocking in at 30.06 seconds while Seb Wong of the QC Buccaneers Swim Club captured the title in the 50m freestyle with a time of 23.94 seconds
