MANILA, Philippines–TNT escaped NorthPort in overtime, 106-101, clinching the No. 3 seed and securing a twice-to-beat protection in the PBA Governors’ Cup Friday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Mikey Williams scored eight of his 28 points in the extra period to help will the Tropang Giga to a 7-4 record and a quarterfinal duel against defending champion Barangay Ginebra.

“I think this prepares us for games ahead,” said TNT coach Chot Reyes. “We were not surprised (of the game). NorthPort is a great team. Fortunately we were able to hang on with some key stops to bring the game to over time.”

TNT enjoyed leads as many 18 points before the Batang Pier came roaring back behind import Jamel Artis, who wound up with 39 points.

NorthPort will shoot the No. 8 seed against Phoenix this Sunday at 6:30 pm.
