MANILA, Philippines—Just less than a year after Manny Pacquiao hung up his gloves, another Pacquiao stepped in the ring.

It was Jimuel’s turn this time as the Filipino boxing legend’s eldest son showed that he too has the skills after figuring in his first amateur fight on United States soil.

The 21-year-old emerged victorious, earning a decision win over Mexican-American Andres Rosales on Sunday (Manila time) at House of Boxing Gym in San Diego, California.

The eight-division champion, who retired after a stunning loss to Yordenis Ugas in August, approved.

“Congratulations to my son Jimuel Pacquiao on fighting and winning his first U.S. amateur fight at junior welterweight! I’m so proud of you,” the former welterweight king wrote on Instagram.

Jimuel, who is eager to pursue a boxing career, fought under the guidance of trainer Marvin Somodio.

He obtained a boxing license in December.

Jimuel has been training in the US and even got to learn from the top pound-for-pound fighter today in Canelo Alvarez back in October.
