Samsung interschool tilt begins

MANILA—The Samsung Interscholastic Golf Championships start today with 16 schools clashing for top honors in various divisions at the north course of the Canlubang Golf and Country Club in Laguna.

La Salle Green Hills goes for back-to-back overall championship in the 11th staging of the annual event sponsored by Samsung but faces a tough challenge from just about every school in the high school category.

Competition is also expected to be fierce in collegiate play with La Salle likewise out to repeat its three-point victory over archrival Ateneo last year in the 54-hole tournament, a five-to-play, three-to-count event played under the Modified Stableford (Molave) scoring system.

St. Paul’s College-Pasig will be the team to beat in the college and high school girls side while Assumption College shoots for its title retention in the grade school girls’ category of the event, backed by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines, Airphil Express, the official airline, Microtel, Inquirer Golf, Glucos Care Herbal Tea, Custom Clubmakers, Omnisource International and Titleist and managed by Bluemansion Company.
Other schools competing are Brent International School, St. Benilde, De La Salle-Zobel, Don Bosco College, Miriam College, St. Pedro Poveda College, Sacred Heart School Ateneo De Cebu, Southville Foreign University, Xavier School and Young Ji International School.

Making up the Assumption roster are Nikki Bruce, Samantha Bruce, Annika Cedo, Annika Gozum, Bianca Pagdanganan and Andrea Pineda, while Ateneo will be led by the likes of Moshe Baldo, Niccole Baretto, AJ Cornejo, Charles Corpuz, Jonathan Cruz, Toby Fernando, Rob Garcia, Kerby Lachica, Luigi Legarda, Mateo Lorenzo, Abot Monroy, Nikki Ocampo, Camille Redillas and Paulina Sotto.
