MANILA, Philippines– Meralco chose the most opportune time to get back at San Miguel as the Bolts took down the Beermen, 100-85, to clinch the first semifinals seat in the PBA Governors’ Cup Friday afternoon at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Import Tony Bishop Jr. caught fire in the middle two quarters to lead Meralco to an empathic triumph that avenged the Bolts’ meltdown at the hands of the Beermen during the elimination round.
“We had a bout a week to prepare. The whole focus, after what happened in the elimination round, was to slow down Shabazz (Muhammad) and not have him again get to 57 points against us,” head coach Norman Black said
“Hats off to my players for executing,” he went on.
Bishop had 32 points and 16 rebounds, while Chris Newsome chipped in 22 while keeping an excellent job in clamping down on the enemy’s stars.
The Beermen were only able to get 24 points from Muhammad, and just three double-digit scores from its powerhouse local cast.
Meralco is set to face of the winner of the Magnolia-Phoenix Super LPG contest which is being played as of posting.
