CSB seizes quarterfinals slot at JRU’s expense

MANILA, Philippines—College of St. Benilde beat Jose Rizal University, 67-63, Wednesday for the last quarterfinals slot in Group B in the 2012 FilOil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup at the Arena in San Juan.

Carlo Lastimosa scattered 13 points, eight assists and four steals for the Blazers, who are finally showing signs of improvement.

CSB managed to win despite committing 29 turnovers, which JRU translated to 29 points.

Fortunately for St. Benilde, it had a good shooting night while on the other hand JRU went for 35% from the field and missed 11 of its 21 free-throw attempts.

Philip Mabulac came through with 15 points on six-of-eight shooting for the Heavy Bombers, who ended their campaign with a 3-5 record.

St. Benilde did a good job limiting knockdown shooter Nate Matute to just six points on two-of-10 shooting.
