Adamson beats Arellano but misses quarterfinals

MANILA, Philippines—Despite missing out on a quarterfinals ticket, Adamson head coach Leo Austria remained upbeat after the Falcons blasted Arellano, 79-59, Wednesday in the 2012 FilOil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup at the Arena in San Juan.

Austria was “a little bit disappointed” his team failed to make it to the playoffs but went on to commend his players for a good showing throughout the tournament.

Eric Camson, whom Austria would heavily lean on when the UAAP comes, put up 16 points and six rebounds.

The Falcons, a totally different team this year with much of their core already served their final playing years, will parade new faces starting with the hard-working Jericho Cruz and starting point guard Ryan Monteclaro.

Cruz finished with 14 points and had three rebounds while Monteclaro failed to score points in 11 minutes.

Austria though wasn’t that concerned with the inexperienced Monteclaro manning the point.

“When Canada and Alvarez started they weren’t that good,” said Austria, who expects much of his new point guard.

Adamson came out firing from the get-go and never let up as it even established a commanding 46-21 lead at the half despite limited minutes given to Alex Nuyles.

Nuyles only played eight minutes to prevent his nagging shoulder injury from worsening.

Nard Pinto paced the Chiefs with 17 points.
