SINGAPORE–A couple of thrilling stoppages and the crowning of a new Grand Prix champion highlighted the first part of the packed ONE X anniversary card at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Chingiz Allazov copped the ONE featherweight kickboxing Grand Prix title after a unanimous decision victory over Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong in the final bout of the lead card.
Senzo Ikeda kicked off the 20-fight event with a second round technical knockout of fellow Japanese fighter Ryuto Sawada in their strawweight bout.
Ikeda couldn’t help but heave a sigh of relief with the victory, having failed the initial hydration test on Friday ahead of the face-off.
South Korean’s Kang Jiwon also pulled off an impressive knockout of Paul Elliott in the heavyweight contest.
Kang sent Elliott crashing with a powerful right hook to the ching 58 seconds into the match, earning him a $50,000 bonus from ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
Thailand’s Sinsamut Klinmee also received the hefty bonus after his phenomenal knockout of Nieky Holzken 1:39 into the second round of their lightweight Muay Thai bout.
The returning hometown bet Amir Khan secured a split decision victory over Ryogo Takahashi in the featherweight.
“I know it was very close fight but last two rounds I just stuck to my game plan,” said Khan.
Both submission grappling matches between Danielle Kelly and Mei Yamaguchi (atomweight) and Reinier de Ridder and Andre Galvao (middleweight), meanwhile, ended in a draw as no fighter were able to submit their opponents in all 12 minutes.
Filipino bets Stephen Loman and Jeremy Miado also took home the victories in the promotion’s tenth anniversary event.
