Bohol to host Spartan Race PH

PANGLAO ISLAND, Bohol—The Spartan Race Philippines will hold on April 2 an epic race for the first time in Bohol province.

The town of Anda, 99 kilometers from Tagbilaran City, will be the battleground for the endurance athletes who will compete in the obstacle race.

Micca De Joya, race director of Spartan Philippines, said the terrain in Anda town is perfect for staging a Spartan Race.

“This is the perfect destination for those looking for a new challenge and adventure,” said Joya.

Obstacle courses will include Bohol Sprint 5K, Hurricane Heat, and Bohol Trail 10K presented by Merrell, which are suitable for athletes of all levels.

Spartan Race is the world’s best obstacle race and leading the Extreme Wellness Category.

The Bellevue Resort is the official resort partner, one of the leading sports venues in the Philippines.

Amie Villena, group director of Sales and Marketing of The Bellevue Hotels and Resorts, said Spartan Race Philippines would jumpstart the tourism recovery of Bohol after the pandemic.

“This will boost domestic tourism. Pilipinas muna,” she said.

Registration has also opened at its official website spartanrace.ph.

Joya said they were expecting many participants in the event. As of Monday, there were already 600 registrants.

The swab test will not be mandatory, but athletes will follow the protocols set by the municipal government of Anda.

“Security is very tight to ensure everybody is safe,” said lawyer Ferdinand Berongoy, project director of Anda Spartan Race Local Committee.

Anda, which is at the eastern tip of Bohol, is a road less traveled. For the past years, it is groomed as one of the promising tourism destinations in the province because of its beautiful beaches.
