MANILA, Philippines—University of Santo Tomas made short work of San Sebastian, 25-12, 25-13, 25-23, Thursday in game three of the semifinals series of the 9th Shakey’s V-League at the Arena in San Juan.
After a gruelling five-setters in the first two games, the Tigresses finally found a way to quickly subdue the Lady Stags, and clinched the remaining finals spot and is set to face idle Ateneo.
The best-of-three finals kick off on Sunday with UST and Ateneo, trying to win it back-to-back, colliding at 4 p.m.
The powerful duo of Thai guest player Utaiwan Kaensing and regular Judy Caballejo led the Tigresses anew as they teamed up for the squad’s 31 points.
The only time the Tigresses allowed the Lady Stags to lead was in the relatively tight third set, but UST has learned its lesson and never allowed San Sebastian to win even just a set.
The Shakey’s V-League title continues to elude the veteran Jeng Bualee, who broke the streak of her 30-point performances dating back to the quarterfinals.
Bualee only scored 18 points, failing once again, to singlehandedly carry the Lady Stags to the finals and a crack at the championship.
San Sebastian threatened to storm back, like it did in game one, leading a few times in the third set but it was all the squad could muster.
The Lady Stags face Perpetual Help on Sunday in the best-of-three battle for third at 2 p.m.
