Powerade routs Alaska behind David’s 31 points in PBA Governors Cup

MANILA, Philippines – Powerade finally snared its first victory in the 2012 PBA Governors Cup in a convincing 114-97 dismantling of Alaska Friday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Tigers, who struggled to get their win in their first two outings, initiated the beatdown in the third quarter with the bench players, behind Gary David, finally stepping up.

David, as usual, went off early, scoring more than half of his total 31 points in opening half – and most of it from downtown.

But it was more than just a David show this time around for Powerade, as the Rey Guevarra also shone for the seconds stringers with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

New import Omar Sneed flirted with a triple double with 13 points, nine rebounds and 11 dimes.

An emphatic slam from the newly acquired Guevarra gave the Tigers, which tied with Alaska with a 1-2 slate, a 22-point advantage towards the end of third which the squad held on to until the end.

Alaska got a solid game from its import Jason Forte but sorely missed the output of floor leader LA Tenorio, who struggled in 30 minutes of action with just four points.

Forte had 25 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Aces, who last had the taste of the lead with midway the opening quarter.
