MANILA, Philippines–Choco Mucho survived from a third-set dip to turn back Cignal HD, 25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, Wednesday and take a 1-0 lead in their Premier Volleyball League Open Conference best-of-three series for third place at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Flying Titans pounced on the HD Spikers still shellshocked from their semifinals defeat and could run away with the bronze medal in Friday’s Game 2.

Choco Mucho took the first two sets but allowed Cignal to steal the third set behind Rachel Anne Daquis. But that was all there is to it for the HD Spikers which fell in a rash of errors late in the fourth.

Showing renewed energy after getting swept by finalist Creamline, Choco Mucho out-attacked Cignal, 14-9, in the first set to set the tone.

Cignal lost the semifinals to PetroGazz despite leading the series 1-0 and multiple match points in Game 2. They entered the game still dispirited until Daquis was fielded in to provide from zest.
