MANILA, Philippines—Alex Eala is through to the second round of the W25 Chiang Rai tournament on Wednesday at Chiang Rai Sports Center in Thailand.
Eala came back to beat Serbian qualifier Katarina Kozarov, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, in the opening round in a match that lasted for two hours and 26 minutes.
Eala showed great resolve after facing a 0-3 hole in the second set, breaking back and holding serve to gain momentum and eventually take control of the match.
The 16-year-old Filipino ace moved on to face home bet Patcharin Cheapchandej.
The Thai wild card upset Russia’s Anhzelika Isaeva, 6-4, 6-2, in the first round.
