MANILA, Philippines – Fans of volleyball player Deanna Wong flocked outside the star setter’s home in Minglanilla, Cebu on Good Friday.

Judin Alvizo-Wong, the mother of the Choco Mucho playmaker, shared a video on her Facebook as a horde of her daughter’s supporters were waiting outside their house.

“How can we go to church with these many people waiting outside our gate? Some of them even came from Mindanao and other parts of Visayas. Some were already here as early as six in the morning,” she wrote in Cebuano with a sad emoji.

Deanna, though, still managed to wave to her fans as seen on the video.

A week ago, the Ateneo standout shared that her family opened up a sari-sari store, which comes with a hardware store next door. The post went viral and some fans went to the store hoping to get a glimpse of the volleyball star.

Deanna has emerged as a fan favorite over the past years as she is often trending in social media during her games in the recently-concluded Premier Volleyball League Open Conference, where Choco Mucho settled for another fourth place finish after losing to sister team Creamline in the semifinals.

When the league welcomed back the fans, Deanna’s supporters followed her games from San Juan Arena, Mall of Asia Arena and even all the way to Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.

The 24-year-old was initially part of the Philippine women’s volleyball team for the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam but she was replaced by Creamline’s back-up setter Kyle Negrito in their Brazil training camp due to a shin injury.
