Spitfire Fran Yu found his range from afar and fueled Letran’s merciless finishing kick for an emphatic 83-62 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College on Wednesday in the NCAA Season 97 men’s basketball tournament at the La Salle Greenhills Gym.
As the Generals mounted a late uprising, Yu swished three consecutive threes that triggered a scoring binge for the Knights, who again tied the San Beda Red Lions at the top with an immaculate record after six games.
Brent Paraiso and Kurt Reyson delivered 15 points each and Mark Sangalang put up one defensive gem after the other with five blocks while Rhenz Abando and Jeo Ambohot crowded the Generals on both ends as well.
They collectively quell the Generals by rapidly scoring in bunches near the end after Marwin Taywan’s three pulled EAC within six and threatened the Knights similar to what the Lyceum Pirates did to the defending champions.
Nat Cosejo had 13 points and JP Maguliano chipped in 11 for the Generals, who shared a safe spot with the San Sebastian Stags (3-4) in the middle of the pack.
