Kai Sotto, Adelaide 36ers end NBL season with a win

MANILA, Philippines — Kai Sotto wrapped up his first professional stint on a high note as Adelaide dominated New Zealand, 93-60, in its final game of Australia’s National Basketball League 2021-22 season on Sunday at MyState Bank Arena.

The 7-foot-2 Filipino center, once again, provided the spark off the bench with 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.

Sotto was instrumental in the 36ers’ big third quarter to bounce back from their previous defeat to the Breakers, 84-75, on March 12 and win their season series 2-1 which includes a 98-85 conquest on December 12.

Sunday Dech led Adelaide’s balanced attack with 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Mojave King chipped in 15 points off the bench. Todd Withers also dropped 14 points, seven boards and two blocks, while Dusty Hannahs added 13 markers.

Sotto and the 36ers finished their season with a 10-18 record, tying Brisbane Bullets at seventh.New Zealand absorbed its 10th straight defeat to end its season dead last at 5-23. Chasson Randle and Rasmus Bach led their squad with 14 points each.

The Filipino prodigy had said in his past interview that he’ll decide on what’s next for his basketball career after their NBL season.
