With its spot in the next round all secure, University of the Philippines drubbed University of Santo Tomas, 96-67, late Thursday to extend its winning spree to three in the UAAP Season 84 men’s basketball at Mall of Asia Arena.

CJ Cansino scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds for the Maroons who upped their record to 11-2 — their best since the Final Four format was introduced in the 90s. The Tigers absorbed their fifth straight for a 3-10 record.

“We used that loss to Adamson to continue improving,” said UP coach Goldwin Monteverde. “We’re looking to win every game. Even if it’s against Ateneo or any other team, we’re there to give our best.”

UP also made sure they are coming off a big morale-booster especially because they will face unbeaten Ateneo in the eliminations finale showdown on Sunday.
