Volleyball players show support for Leni Robredo in ‘AngAtleta’ event

MANILA, Philippines—Alyssa Valdez and other volleyball stars attended the “Ang Atleta” event on Tuesday, showing their full support for presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo in the May 9 election.

Valdez’s fellow Ateneo standouts Deanna Wong, Maddie Madayag and Bea De Leon were among those who showed up at  Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“I feel very hopeful to see everyone who supports not just us but also VP Leni. I’m very proud of what I see, with the courage to be brave,” said De Leon in a speech before the crowd.

“To the voters who are still undecided, I ask you guys to do your part. Let’s do our research, background checks.”

A pair of exhibition matches were among the highlights of the event.

Cheerleaders from various universities and colleges also provided entertainment before a predominantly pink-clad crowd.

Robredo’s daughter Tricia was also present as well as PBA champion head coach Yeng Guiao, who has been vocal about his support for the incumbent Vice President.

Many sports personalities, including Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes and PBA legends, have endorsed Robredo in the presidential race.
