MANILA, Philippines—National University solidified its status as an emerging contender after a 25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22 win over Ateneo in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.
The young Lady Bulldogs showed they have a bright future ahead of them as they improved to 2-0 and dealt the defending champions their second loss in as many outings.
“Our preparation has been a big key for us,” said NU coach. Karl Dimaculangan. “But we have problems with our errors so we’ll address that.”
Returning Princess Robles and rookie Bella Belen starred with 18 points apiece for NU. Robles also had 13 excellent digs.
Another promising rookie Alyssa Solomon shone with 15 points, including four aces.
Faith Nisperos, who scored 24 in a four-set loss to La Salle on Thursday, was the lone Blue Eagle in double-digit scoring with 16.
The Lady Bulldogs, who beat the Adamson Lady Falcons in straight sets on Thursday, won despite committing 38 errors. An ace by Belen sealed the game.
