MANILA, Philippines—University Santo Tomas grabbed a piece of the early lead after cruising past University of the East, 25-16, 25-22, 25-20, Saturday night in the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena.
Eya Laure anchored the Golden Tigresses’ attack with a game-high 18 points while Camille Victoria added 13.
UST moved into a four-way tie in first place with La Salle, National University and University of the Philippines toting identical 2-0 slates.
The Tigresses and Fighting Maroons figure in a key clash on Tuesday.
UST, which was a finalist in UAAP Season 81, missed the services of its middle blocker Imee Hernandez.
Hernandez sustained a right ankle injury in the first set of the Tigresses’ opening win over Far Eastern University on Thursday.
