MANILA, Philippines – UAAP Season 84 men’s basketball finalists Ateneo and La Salle and all the women’s volleyball teams can cast their votes in the May 9 polls.
UAAP Executive Director Atty. Rebo Saguisag said the men’s basketball finalists, who are under a bubble environment, and the coaches and players of the ongoing women’s volleyball tournament playing under closed-circuit can exercise their right to vote on Monday.
But the members of the teams have to take an antigen test and yield a negative result on the first day of re-entry.
“They just have to follow the protocols in re-entry. To be specific it would be an antigen test on the first day of entry. If negative, they can join because you’re deemed not infectious,” Saguisag told reporters.
“If you tested positive that would be unfortunate. You have to isolate. I hope it won’t happen. But if you isolate it means a player is losing a chance to play in the game.”
The league official is confident that the members of UP and Ateneo are cautious if they will cast their votes in the 2022 elections.
“I assume also for both of these schools (Ateneo and UP), each vote matters. I’ve been checking the schools, they have been extra careful,” Saguisag said. “Private cars, double masks, vote then avoid the crowds. Self-regulation.”
Saguisag is encouraging the student-athletes to vote.
“I encourage everyone to vote. That’s a very sacred right. You can argue we are living in very interesting times. It matters not only for their generation but for generations to come. Our decision will make a very big impact for our country so choose wisely,” he said.
