PRIZED rookie Jeron Teng forced overtime with a three-point bomb with five seconds to play in regulation and Norbert Torres came up big in the extra period as La Salle scored a 62-59 victory over archrival Ateneo in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup on Saturday.
Teng finished with 17 points, Torres notched a double-double effort with 13 points and 19 rebounds while LA Revilla was back to his old form with 16 markers and seven boards for the Green Archers.
The victory at the Filoil Flying V Arena gave the Archers a quarterfinal slot with a 5-3 record in Group A along with the University of Santo Tomas Tigers, who earlier downed University of the Philippines Maroons, 77-70.
It was only the second loss in eight games for the Eagles, early quarterfinalists who missed injured center Greg Slaughter in their first game since a training stint in the US.
“Jeron is used to scoring since high school. He is Mr. 105 points,” said La Salle coach Gee Abanilla. “I like how he is developing.”
Earlier, the Ateneo Eaglets used a strong push in the payoff period to outlast the La Salle-Zobel Greenies, 75-63, to finish the elimination at 3-2 in the junior division.
