MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine rowing team copped three bronze medals in the men’s lightweight coxless four and men’s and women’s lightweight quadruple sculls in the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Friday at Thuy Nguyen Hai Phong Aquatics Center in Vietnam.
Edgar Ilas, Roque Abala Jr., Zuriel Sukintac, and Joachim de Jesus placed third in the men’s lightweight coxless, clocking 7:00.117.
Indonesia won the gold with the best time of 6:47.729, while Vietnam finished second at 6:52.879
Meanwhile, the Philippine women’s rowing team also placed third in the women’s lightweight quadruple sculls.
Joanie Delgaco, Kharl Julianne Sha Bengco, Feiza Jane Lenton, and Alyssa Hannah Go clocked 7:30.148 for the bronze medal
Home team Vietnam was the fastest at 7:11.326, while Indonesia earned the silver with 7:18.388.
The men’s national rowing team also delivered the bronze in the men’s lightweight quadruple sculls as Athens Tolentino, Adrian Maxilom, CJ Jasmin and Emmanuel Joseph Obana finished third with a time of 6:46.841.
Indonesia ruled the contest, clocking 6:28.399 as Vietnam placed as runner-up with 6:34.444.
Kristine Paraon and Amelyn Pagulayan, however, placed fourth in the women’s pair, finishing the race at 8:43.503.
Vietnam won gold in the women’s pair with the best time of 8:11.551, beating second placer Indonesia (8:21.051) and bronze medalist Myanmar (8:25.878).
The national rowing team has five medals, one silver from the men’s lightweight double sculls and four bronze medals including the third place finish in the women’s quadruple sculls last Wednesday.
