MANILA, Philippines–Despite a wobbly outing on the second day of pool play, the Philippines teams’ title-retention bids in the 31st Southeast Asian Games 3×3 event remain alive.

Gilas men settled for the No. 2 seed on Saturday afternoon after losing to host Vietnam, 21-14, in its final assignment in the men’s showcase at Thanh Tri Gymnasium in Hanoi.

The women’s squad, meanwhile, will be entering the Final Four an inspired bunch after escaping tough-as-nails Malaysia, 13-11, earlier. It finished the preliminaries with a 3-3 record.

The 4-2 men’s 3×3 crew, which is bannered by pro-bound Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, will be taking on Thailand in a rematch of their semifinal encounter during the last edition of the biennial meet which was held in Manila.

Gilas women, led by sharp-shooting Janine Pontejos and the decorated Afril Bernardino, will also play Thailand, a side they lost to last Friday.
