MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine women’s beach volleyball team sustained its fine play to sweep Malaysia in the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Monday at Tuan Chau in Quang Ninh, Vietnam.

Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons drew the first blood with a dominant 21-11, 21-9 victory over the Malaysians Aina Ahmad Nizar and Maegan Beh Jia Yin.

Jovelyn Gonzaga and Dij Rodriguez took down Foo Sin Xi and Sin Sing Yee, 21-14, 21-9, to complete the sweep.

The Philippines opened its campaign with a sweep of Singapore on Sunday.

Rondina, Pons, and Rodriguez, the bronze medalists of the 2019 SEA Games in Subic are seeking to surpass their previous finish with a new member, Jovelyn Gonzaga, who used to represent the country in indoor in the past three biennial tournaments.

The women’s beach volleyball team takes on reigning silver medalist Malaysia on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. (Manila time) in the single-round robin competition with the team that posts the most number of wins claiming the gold medal.
