MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine men’s beach volleyball team clinched a semifinals berth in the 31st Southeast Asian Games after sweeping Cambodia on Tuesday at Tuan Chau Beach in Vietnam.
Jude Garcia and Krung Arbasto edged out Chuk Sophea and Thy Menghuong, 21-15, 21-16.
Ranran Abdilla and Jaron Requinton completed the sweep of the Cambodians, beating Oem Narit and Som Samith, 21-14, 21-14.
The Philippines secured a spot in the semifinals with a 2-0 record in Pool A after opening its campaign with a sweep of Singapore on Sunday.
Requinton and Garcia had different partners when they earned bronze in the 2019 SEA Games in Subic.
Abdilla was part of the men’s national volleyball team’s historic silver medal finish three years ago, while Arbasto started teaming up with Garcia last year and in reached the quarterfinals of the 2021 AVC Asian Senior Beach Volleyball Championships in Phuket, Thailand.
The men’s national beach volleyball team takes on home team Vietnam on Wednesday for the No.1 seed in Pool A at 3 p.m. (Manila time).
