MANILA, Philippines—The wins continue to pile up for the Philippine boxing team in the 31st Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday.
Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Nesthy Petecio assured herself of a bronze medal after beating Kay Thwe of Myanmar to reach the women’s 60kg semifinal at Bac Ninh Stadium.
On Tuesday, James Palicte also secured at least a bronze in the men’s 63kg class after a sensational first round knockout of Touch Davit of Cambodia. He handled Vu Thanh Dat of Vietnam to open his bid for a second straight gold on Monday.
Palicte faces Farrand Papendang of Indonesia for a shot at the gold on Thursday.
Reigning flyweight champion Rogen Ladon also took care of business on Tuesday following a win over Muhammad Abdul Qaiyum Bin Ariffin of Malaysia for a sure bronze.
Ladon takes on Thanarat Saengphet of Thailand in the semis also on Friday.
Ian Clark Bautista, likewise, booked a semis ticket after beating Mohamed Hanurdeen Bin Hamid in the 57kg class on Tuesday. He clashes with Sao Rangsey of Cambodia for a place in the gold medal round on Friday.
